The machine knows up to 107 things about you that you should know.

The Charts · Time and cycles

Your birth chart never changes. Your year does.

How does the machine work out your year ahead?

Two clocks set the year ahead on the card. One is numerology's personal year, your birth month and day added to the current year, which runs in a nine-year cycle. The other is Jupiter, which takes about twelve years to circle the zodiac and spends roughly a year in each sign, counted from your sun sign.

What it is

The birth chart is fixed for life. A year ahead needs something that moves. The card uses two well-worn clocks, one from numerology and one from the sky, and reads them against the chart you were born with.

Clock one: the personal year

Take your birth month and birth day, reduce each to one digit, add the current calendar year reduced the same way, and reduce the total. The result, 1 to 9 (or 11, 22 or 33 kept whole), is your personal year. Everyone born on the same month and day shares it, and it usually steps up by one each January, so the cycle comes round every nine years.

Example: the year 2026, for anyone born on March 14. Month 3 gives 3; day 14 gives 5; 2+0+2+6 = 10, which reduces to 1. 3 + 5 + 1 = 9: personal year 9.

The machine counts the personal year by the calendar year, from January 1.

Clock two: Jupiter

Jupiter takes about 12 years to go round the Sun, so from Earth it spends roughly a year in each sign of the zodiac. That steady, year-long pace is why astrologers have long used it as a yearly clock. 1

The machine finds the sign Jupiter is passing through now and counts it from your sun sign: Jupiter in your own sign is your 1st house this year, in the next sign your 2nd, and so on round to the 12th. Houses counted from the sun sign like this are called solar houses. They need only a birthday, so they work for everyone.

Ptolemy's chapter on the division of times already gives Jupiter's movements from sign to sign authority over the years, Saturn's over longer stretches, and the Moon's over days. 2

The rest of the year page

Love this year reads your Venus sign's element. Month by month runs twelve months forward from when the card prints. The lucky charms gather your own numbers (life path, birth day, name number, personal year), a colour for your Venus sign and the weekday of your sun sign's ruling planet.

Because both clocks move, a card printed in January and one printed in December can read differently for the same person. The year is counted from the day the card prints.

Asked at the booth

Does my personal year start on my birthday or on January 1?

Numerologists split on this. The machine uses the calendar year, so your personal year changes on January 1.

Will my year ahead be the same if I print another card next year?

No. Both clocks move: your personal year steps on, and Jupiter will be in a different sign, so the year page is worked out fresh. Your birth chart pages stay the same.

Is the year ahead a prediction?

No. It gives themes and moods to play with, the way a horoscope column does, never outcomes. The card is for entertainment and self-reflection.

Why count Jupiter from my sun sign instead of my rising sign?

So that everyone gets the same method, with or without a birth time. Solar houses need only the birth date.
